With Control entering theatres, I saw the track listing for the soundtrack that came out on iTunes on Tuesday. I have to say, I’m significantly disappointed in the cover of
The first is a “Blue Monday” cover by Nada Surf. I’m not a huge fan of the band, considering they don’t really sound different from bands like Death Cab For Cutie (whose guitarist produces their albums), but I still really like this cover.
The second is a cover of my favorite New Order song “Age of Consent” by Arcade Fire. I remember the first time I put Power, Corruption, & Lies into my computer and fell in love with it. I also remember my surprise when the song was used in the first trailer for Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette. Win Butler is perfect on the vocals here, and the string section is wonderful as well.

The Killers cover is called "Shadowplay" not "Transmission" HELLO get the title correct before you comment on something.
easy there, i corrected it...and gave it another listen to really understand how absolutely awful their attempt at Joy Division is. The Killers are great at being the new Duran Duran, not the new Springsteen or Joy Division, and they should stick to their strengths...
Two notes:
I hear lots of people talking about how terrible Sam's Town is all the time and I just don't get it. I didn't care for it a lot on first listen, but damn if it hasn't gotten exponentially better every single time I've listened to it. By this point in time, it's near classic status in my head. It's so...anthemic.
Secondly, one of my 7th graders today did some journal writing about Daphne Loves Derby and I was able to talk to him about it purely because of your blog. I was excited. Thanks for educating me!
